After completing the course, students will be able to identify the main developments and research areas in technical communication. Students will be able to describe the technical communication professional and corporate field and its ethical principles. Students are familiar with general documentation process models and the principles of project management. They are able to map out the technical information in an organisation and are familiar with information models. Students can list the key factors of usability and different usability engineering methods. Students are familiar with the relevant laws and standards in the field. In addition, students are able to produce a CV and a job application.
Contents
The course provides an overview of technical communication as a profession and a discipline and gives basic foundation skills in target audience analysis methods, information and documentation process models, and project management. The course will also introduce issues of usability, legislation and ethical working practices. In addition, students work on their own CV and job application and start networking in the field through the Finnish Technical Communications Society (STVY).
