After successful completion of the course, students will - be able to in simple sentences describe objects, clothes, things, food, family and other people - be able to participate in simple discussions about ordinary events, such as shopping and going to a restaurant, and speak about cultural events and social life (e.g. holidays, birthdays, weddings, etc.) - be able to handle short social exchanges (greetings, thanking, asking about well-being, etc.) and give simple instructions and advice - be able to write short and simple notes and messages and simple personal or formal letters in order to thank or congratulate someone - be able to use the past tense and different past time related expressions and compare things to the present - understand something about the French history, and be able to talk about it
Contents
A variety of reading, writing, listening and oral activities along with basic grammar lessons. Exercises in pairs or in groups. In addition to the work done in the classroom, the course requires independent work for example at the Self Access Centre of the Language Centre, where students can improve their language skills.

Evaluation is based on a final written exam at the end of the course. In addition, reading, writing and oral skills will be assessed by active participation, feedback from the teacher and other students, and by continuous assessment.
