Learning outcomes

On completing the course, students
- can understand, read and write very basic Arabic language
- can understand and use easy and simple words and basic expressions related to everyday life (greetings, etc.)
- can introduce themselves and others, inquire about identity and place of origin and describe national and regional affiliation
- can describe objects from immediate environment (e.g. school, university, home, etc.)
- can participate in simple conversation where they tell about themselves and about the immediate surroundings, providing that the conversation partner speaks slowly and clearly
- can answer to easy questions about themselves and ask others the same questions about familiar subjects
- can write short sentences and fill out simple forms
- can identify Arab countries and cities and talk in English about their political systems, culture and society.

Contents

The course presents a variety of reading, writing, listening and speaking activities along with grammar lessons. The course is based on peer and group work in different situations. In addition to the work done in the classroom, the course requires independent work, for instance in the Self Access Centre of the Language Centre, where students may improve and develop their learning skills according to their own needs.
