This course is in accordance with the faculty requirements for a foreign language oral skills course.
Learning outcomes
After completing this study module, students will - understand the meaning of self-directed language learning as a part of academic competence - understand the basics of intercultural communication - be able to apply the tools used in information retrieval to learning professional language - be able to effectively participate in various professional communication situations - be able to produce written documents related to the topics mentioned above
Contents
During this course, students will - assess their own language skills and make/update their personal development plan (especially pronunciation and grammar) - develop their awareness and skills in intercultural communication - become familiar with the sources/programmes needed for English professional communication (dictionaries, online professional writing, databases) - practise different forms of expression needed in various situations (e.g. meetings, negotiations, debates, interviews) This is an integrated course, with an emphasis on oral communication.

Evaluation by portfolio of written assignments and seminar presentation, word test and active participation.
Recommended year of study
First year of study. It is recommended that this course be taken after the Academic English course, or at the same time. The course lasts for two periods.
