Learning outcomes

The course is specifically especially designed for international students who wish to know more about the Finnish society and culture. The main purpose is to introduce the students to the society and culture of contemporary Finland. After the course, the students will have an idea of the development and cultural, political and economic background of one of the Nordic welfare states.

Contents

Lectures by experts in the fields of e.g. Finnish History, Welfare State, Foreign Policy, Information Society, Technology, Innovations, Literature, Culture, Music, Art, Design, Environmental issues, Forestry, Business and business branches especially in the Tampere region.

Numeric 1-5. 

Active participation in the lectures and an exam. The exam will be organised at the end of the lecture series. It will be a multiple choice which, possibly, also includes writing some short essays.

To get 1 ECTS credit you need to participate actively in 10 of the lectures offered in the programme. In this case your grade will be "Pass" or "Fail".


To get 3 ECTS credits you need to participate actively in the lectures offered in the programme, and pass the exam organised at the end of the lecture series.In this case your grade will be on the scale 1-5.

To get 5 credits, the student must also pass a book exam (books to be confirmed in the course programme).
