General description

The course will focus on the research literature of interactive media studies and on the different research traditions in this field.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course a student is expected to be able to:

-construct and comprehend an overall picture of the different approaches into the study of digital, interactive media
-evaluate, critically compare and synthesize knowledge derived from different studies of interactive media
-write and orally communicate results from a scientific literature review

Contents

The course deals with a wide range of research traditions, the annual selection being based on topics chosen by the students. These can include e.g. study of hypertexts and cybertexts, the structures of hypermedia, study of interactive fiction and drama, research into computer-mediated communication and social networks, the cultural and social psychological study of the Internet, study of digital aesthetics, game studies, study of location-aware and pervasive media, and other topical areas as necessary.
