General description
The course aims to provide students with such communication skills that help further dialogue in the work place when using English as a lingua franca.
Learning outcomes
After successful completion of the course the students will
• be able to understand and know how to overcome barriers to effective communication • have knowledge and tools to reflect on and develop their own communication skills • be able to use strategies to enhance dialogue and constructive communication at work
Contents
During the course the students will
• acquaint themselves with the concept of dialogue • analyse the role of language in the context of workplace communication • practice strategies of sharing meaning through dialogue in a group • develop strategies for dealing with conflict • engage in a common workplace task (e.g. negotiating a strategy for an organization)
Teaching methods
The average student workload for a 2 credit course is 54 hours (2 x 27). This is a contact course with 26 h of classwork and 28 h of independent guided preparation.
