Learning outcomes

Students will learn how to use statistical inference to solve problems with biological sequences. Students are assumed to know how to calculate: 1) confidence intervals for model parameters and 2) significance levels for statistical hypotheses on model parameters from data consisting of biological sequences and their statistical models consisting of Markov chains and hidden Markov models.

Contents

This course orientates to statistical models, such as Markov chains and hidden Markov models, and their applications to biological sequence analysis. The use of statistical inference is demonstrated with real data sets.

Teaching language

English

Modes of study

Lectures, exercises, and project.

Evaluation

Numeric 1-5.
