Learning outcomes

The course considers cross-cultural variation and human universals related to aggression, conflict resolution, moral systems, reciprocity, female-male differences, empathy, and kindness. The concepts of “culture” and “human universals” will figure prominently in the course. We will also consider cross-cultural research methods.

Contents

Course material will be presented through readings, lectures, in-class discussions, and the viewing and discussion of films. Several segments from the highly acclaimed anthropological video series, Millennium, will be shown.
