Learning outcomes

To enhance students’ understanding of the main methodological approaches and options available to European and Russian studies in the social sciences and the humanities.

Contents

This combined lecture and workshop course presents an introduction to the main methodological approaches in the social sciences and the humanities prevailing across different disciplines, including international relations, communication studies and journalism, and linguistic and cultural studies. After the introductory lectures students will familiarise themselves in group, pair or individual work with one of the major methodological approaches and prepare a presentation for the joint section workshop. In the discipline specific workshop students will prepare and present essays on methods in their own discipline.

Teaching methods

Joint introductory lectures 12hrs, workshop presentation in joint seminar 10hrs and learning diary (5 ECTS); discipline specific essays with essay seminar in the discipline specific section (5ECTS).
