To bring the basic trends of journalism development in contemporary Russia and to pose a question about the role of a journalist in society taken Russia as a challenge to the Western school of research

Evolution of journalism as a profession in Russia; conditions of journalism after the collapse of the USSR: the capitals and regions; social profile of contemporary journalists; the professional practices; the professional values.
