Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course unit, the student will be able to understand the main functional principles of the society and legal system in areas where their second working language is spoken, to the extent that is pertinent to a court interpreter's work. The student will also be able to take these principles into account in a court interpreting situation. The student will be able to discuss and compare basic concepts and terminology of preliminary investigation, criminal and civil law, and immigration.

Contents

The course unit provides comparative information on the society and legal system in areas where the student’s working languages are spoken. The course unit explores the main concepts of immigration affairs and criminal and civil law, such as criminal offences and penalties.
