Learning outcomes

After the successful completion of the course, the students will
• be familiar with the multidisciplinary field of public and international health.
• understand the historic, economic and cultural context of public and international health, the key concepts used in these disciplines, and various approaches to assess and describe population health.
• know the basics of the distribution of and trends in health and health promotion on global, regional and national levels.

Contents

• History, development and key concepts in public and international health
• Contemporary issues in various disciplines in public health and international health (e.g. mental health, socioeconomic disparities, aging, work and health, life-style, demographic changes)
• Introduction to health systems and their financing
• Major initiatives to improve population health at national and international level
• Health assessment and indicators used in public and international health
