Learning outcomes

By the end of the course you

• can set your own learning goals and evaluating yourself
• have improved key intercultural communication skills (i.e. tolerating ambiguity, empathic listening,…)
• have developed appropriate strategies for extensive and intensive academic reading (scanning, skimming and locating the main points, dictionary use,)
• can locate, retrieve and synthesize information in your field from a variety of resources (e.g. libraries catalogues, databases, Internet)
• can identify the purposes of different academic texts, analysing and evaluating how academic writers structure and organise ideas to shape meaning
• can read critically: compare and summarise information from different texts and use it to form your own ideas, arguments and opinions
• can select and apply strategies in different reading, speaking and listening situations, with in an ability to recognise what is appropriate for situations in academic and other contexts
• have sufficient vocabulary to discuss and explain matters connected to your academic field
• use different language learning strategies and tools critically for developing your vocabulary (academic and subject-specific terminology and concepts)
• work productively in groups, negotiating and building on the contributions of others to complete tasks
• are aware of your own and other communication styles
• are able to engage in self and peer assessments
