Learning outcomes

The student understands the changing character of music and dance cultures in the globalizing world, the role of music and dance in the construction of ethnic identities and communities as well as local music and dance styles as parts of global media culture. In addition, s/he is more familiar with a few different transnational music and/or dance phenomena.

Contents

In the study module the students familiarize themselves with transnational music and/or dance phenomena, e.g. the traditions maintained by migrants, the foreign communities of enthusiasts of various local music and dance genres, the local interpretations of international pop music genres and so-called world music.
