KKSA1A1 BEGINNERS' GERMAN COURSE I 3 ECTS

Preceding studies
For students who have not previously studied German. Those who have studied German before should not sign up for this course, but test their language proficiency level at www.goethe.de/cgi-bin/einstufungstest/einstufungstest.pl and find a suitable course by negotiating with the course teacher for instance via e-mail.

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students will
- understand and be able to use simple everyday expressions and basic vocabulary
- be able to introduce themselves and another person and greet and say goodbye
- be able to make appointments, order food and shop
- be able to answer simple questions about themselves and ask similar questions themselves, for instance about accommodation, studying, holidays, family, occupation and hobbies
- be familiar with basic German grammar, such as forming statements, interrogative sentences, imperatives and negations

Contents

There will be plenty of listening and speaking exercises in pairs and groups. Interactive skills are practised with dialogue exercises. Text comprehension, vocabulary and linguistic structures, such as the present tense conjugation and the use of articles, nouns and personal pronouns, will be practised with a coursebook and Finnish material separately compiled by the teacher. In addition, there will be plenty of online exercises available for independent study.

Evaluation and evaluation criteria

Numeric 1-5.
Evaluation by written final examination and regular and active participation in class. Through vocabulary and structure tests and exercises, students will be able to keep track of their own learning. The teacher will give immediate feedback on progress during the course.
