To master the basics of Latin and to be able to study Latin sources when needed with the help of dictionaries and encyclopedias. To become familiar with the main points of Greek-Roman ancient history and cultural history.

Two series of lectures, both 56h, with a final examination, or a book exam for which students read approximately 80-100 pages of Latin texts (including Caesar, Sallustius, Livius, Tacitus, Ammianus Marcellinus, Cicero, Seneca and Boethius) and approximately 1800 verses by Roman poets (e.g. Catullus, Vergilius, Horatius, Ovidius).
