STYÖA1A The Bases of Social Law is a prerequisite for both courses. In addition, bachelor's studies should be completed.

General description

A two-part optional course of advanced studies.
1. Juridifying Social Work course and
2. Child Protection Jurisprudence course.
Taking only one of the courses is possible as well.

Learning outcomes

1. The objective of Juridifying Social Work is to further students' understanding of the purpose of justice and its growing significance in social work and of the professional facilities it requires from a social worker.
2. The objective of Child Protection Jurisprudence is to further students' understanding of the issues concerning the legal regulations of child protection and to help them understand the problems concerning judicialisation.

Contents

1. The course introduces students to legislation and other legal sources, and to the interpretation and discretion used when applying legislation. Also studied are the judicial position of a social worker's client from the basic rights angle and the legal responsibility of a social worker.
2. Child protection is a sector in which judicialisation can be detected the most easily. This course consists of the most central judicial questions related to child protection, especially the ones that are in accordance with the child protection law. Other regulations concerning child protection are dealt with to some extent by complementing the child protection law.

1. Juridifying Social Work (3 ECTS/1 cu)
2. Child Protection Jurisprudence (3 ECTS/1 cu)

Both courses are completed with a lecture/learning journal.

Evaluation and evaluation criteria

Numeric 1-5.
Separate instructions given for the writing and assessment of the lecture/learning journals.

Recommended year of study

1. year spring

With advanced (master's) studies, the prerequisite is as a rule completed bachelor's studies.
