Learning outcomes

Familiarise the student with the theoretical premises, methods and tools of the organisation and representation of different types of document data. The student gains insight into the methods, tools and practices of representation used in different contexts.

Contents

The historical, functional and theoretical premises of knowledge organisation in different memory organisations. The basic concepts of documents and their representation. Cataloguing rules. Documentary languages, classifications and thesauruses. The processes and practices of representation. Document representation. The representation of music, picture and video materials and fiction. The representation of online material and digital libraries. The design of the structure and content of thesauri. Research on knowledge organisation and document representation.
