Course entry based on completion of basic and subject studies, any exceptions must be fully justified and will only be accepted on a discretionary basis.
All students enrolled on the course are expected to devote full-time to it.
Homework assignment 1 will be required for starting the course.
Genes and genome structure will be considered from both a functional and an evolutionary perspective.
Contents
The course will cover prokaryotic and eukaryotic gene organization, conjugating and non-conjugating plasmids, repetitive DNA, centromeres, telomeres, transposable elements, organelle genomes and programmed DNA rearrangements as well as an introductory overview of molecular evolution and evolutionary genetics.
