The two-year MPD in Biomedical Technology is taught entirely in English and comprises 120 ECTS credits. The curriculum consists of general studies, advanced studies and free choice studies. The molecular biology specialization option includes a compulsory module of methodological studies focusing on the specific methods and applications of molecular biology, complemented with optional courses on e.g. biotechnology, health technology, cell and tissue technology as well as bioinformatics.
The teaching methods include both theoretical courses and practical laboratory work. The education is provided in close connection with the research taking place in various research groups at the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences. For the Master's Thesis every student completes an individual research project of 40 ECTS. Part of the studies may be completed in other universities, for example through the ERASMUS-exchange program.
The degree provides the student with skills that can be utilized in various positions as an academic expert, for example in research and development either in Finland or abroad. You may also choose to continue your studies towards a doctoral degree.
