Scandinavian Languages

Students of Scandinavian languages at the University of Tampere may choose to study either language and culture or translation (Swedish). Studies are meant for students speaking Finnish as their first language.

The programme of Scandinavian languages includes lectures, seminars, exercises and independent work. The aim is to introduce the students to the language, its structure and development, as well as using the language in a socio-cultural environment. The studies include also basic courses in Norwegian and/or Danish.

The studies are divided into three levels: basic, intermediate and advanced studies. At the beginning of the studies there are more practical exercises, whereas advanced studies include a more theoretical perspective to the language.
