Learning outcomes

Opintojakson suoritettuaan opiskelija osaa käsitteellistää ja eritellä median instituutioiden ja markkinoiden rakenteita ja toimintaa sekä näiden muodostamien mediajärjestelmien eroja ja yhtäläisyyksiä. Hän tunnistaa mediajärjestelmien syntyyn ja kehitykseen vaikuttavat keskeiset tekijät ja osaa arvioida järjestelmien muutoksen vaikutuksia. Hän oppii myös arvioimaan kriittisesti median rakenteiden ja toiminnan normatiivisia lähtökohtia ja niihin kohdistuvan tutkimuksen metodologiaa.

General description

Objective of the course is to enable students to understand processes of globalization, media convergence and the transformation from the industrial to the information society, in particular the role of the Internet as the basic infrastructure for global information society with its political, legal, economic, social and cultural implications. The course covers a range of issues, which have been negotiated in the process of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).

Evaluation criteria

Lectures and lecture diary plus a separate book exam. Lectures and the diary 2 ECTS, book exam 3 ECTS.
