On completion of the course the student
- has acquired substantial knowledge about foundations, history and mainstream theories of social gerontology
- understands the function of social networks in ageing adults
- has practised critical thinking and scientific reasoning
- can debate on different viewpoints and defend scientific arguments
- is able to apply scientific knowledge to societal practice
The course is based on recorded lectures given by a Dutch exchange researcher Marja Aartsen in spring term 2010. The course contains watching six recorded lectures opened for the students in Moodle and four workshop sessions where the core themes of the lectures will be discussed and assignments given to students unpacked .
The workshop sessions will be held on Thursdays at 12-14 o'clock on 6, 13 and 27 November and 11 December 2014. The venue will be announced later.
