Learning outcomes

After completing this module, the student will be able to:

- widen their perspective on what is understood or accepted as both performance and game play
- acknowledge the materiality of technology, both hardware and software
- combine practical, artistic processes and knowledge production with critical, scientific thinking.

General description

During the course students get to know the basics of performance theory in relation to game studies. Contact sessions include both theoretical discussions and practical parts. Students will produce their own artistic performances with and for games and game devices.

The course is suitable for both bachelor and master students, and to students from various disciplines, such as game studies, media culture, theatre and drama research, and HCI.

Evaluation criteria

The course is worth three or five ECTS. To acquire five credits the student must participate in the contact sessions and write an essay. For three credits, the student must participate in the contact sessions and write a reflection paper.

Further instructions will be given during the first session.

Further information

JOVA11 Kerronnan monet muodot can be replaced by this course. If the student decides only to participate in the contact sessions, they will have to do a book exam for the remaining two points.
