Learning outcomes

Students develop understanding of key concepts and theoretical views on notions and theories of identity, engage in debates on these perspectives, and gain an insight into how identity dynamics differentiate students. Students build critical capacity to evaluate different views of diversity operating in preschools, schools and adult education within a context of growing diversity, globalisation and cosmopolitanism.

General description

This course critically explores notions of identity, related issues in curriculum, pedagogy and practice and its dynamics. It introduces students to performative, intersectional, pluralised and postcolonial understandings of identity by focusing on national, cultural, cosmopolitan identities and race, gender and age.
