Internet has been described by Anette Markham (1998) through three metaphors: as a tool, as a place and as a way of being. These three do not exclude each other, but help us understand computer mediated communication. In this course we will focus on blogs. Throughout the course we will discuss and analyze blogs through discourse analysis. We will study how blogs are perceived and gendered and gendering, resistance and activism, different themes and niches in blogs, methodological and ethical issues connected to blog research and blogs as spaces.
