After completing the course the student will understand:
• Continuity and change in the European media policy framework
• Comparative similarities and differences in the USA and elsewhere
• Normative theories explaining what media are expected to do and to be
• How and why media policy and theory are of practical importance
Priority on the course is given to students in the Master's Programme in Media Management. Some places are also availabe to other students. Requirements:
- students who have completed basic and intermediate studies in Journalism and Communication or Business Studies
OR
- other Master's level students in Media/Journalism or Management/Business
Exchange students are also welcome, if they fulfil one of the criteria above. Max. number of students in the course is 25.
Prof. Lowe will teach the section on media policy in autumn 2013 during periods I and II. The course will continue in period III, beginning in January 2014, with Prof. Nordenstreng teaching the section on traditions in media and communication research.
