The course gives an overview of statistics, its importance and use in different fields of science. Basic statistical concepts and descriptive statistics are introduced, as well as an elementary introduction to estimation and hypothesis testing is given. An introduction to a statistical software package is also included.
Only the students of the Bachelor's and Master's programmes of the ISSS (International School of Social Sciences) can participate on this course.

A short course in statistics by visiting lecturer Katarzyna Filipiak, Poznan University of Life Sciences, Poland. Students can take this course as TILTA36/TILTS19 Survey on Recent Statistical Research and Methodology. There is a form to be filled for this.
Dr. Katarzyna Filipiak will give lectures on some comparisons between estimability and optimality under the univariate and multivariate models: Introduction of the theory of experiments - univariate and multivariate case; derivation of maximum likelihood estimators and study of statistical properties of those estimators, introduction of optimality of designs in univariate and multivariate linear models and comparison of optimal designs.
Please enrol by email to Simo Puntanen (simo.puntanen@uta.fi).
