2. degree students of the MDP Teacher Education

The course is meant for the exchange students of the Faculty of Education.

The course contains an introduction lecture after which students will study the topic independently in reading groups. Instructions for reading groups will be given at the lecture.
The course focuses on critical approaches of intercultural education and communication. It consists of lectures, discussions, group works, reading and seminar. After examination of central concepts and approaches students will analyze and evaluate various texts and images of cultures and cultural differences, and also reflect their own world views. Students read course literature in groups and present its basic points to other students. In groups students prepare and give an oral presentation regarding intercultural education and / or communication. Students reflect their learning based on lectures, discussions, presentations and literature in a learning diary.
Maximum 25 students.
Maximum 30 students. Priority is given to exchange students in the Faculty of Education and students studying in international master’s degree programs in Teacher Education and in Media Education.
An equivalent course will also be organized in the spring semester 2018.
The final assignment will be applied according the level of studies (Bachelor/Master)

During the course, these themes will be presented and discussed in lectures and workshops. In addition, the students will plan lessons related to global education.
Modes of Study: Lectures, group presentations and written assignments.
This study module is available for all students (TaY, TTY, TAMK). Max 25 students.
The study module is also available as a part of the Multicultural Study Programme in Education, with the code KASMULTI4 Optional course: Global Education
The students will be introduced to:
- Topics related with contemporary international influences in education and policy transfer;
- The influence of international/transnational actors (as OECD) in steering national policy-making;
- International large scale assessments and the reference to the “best performers” in education (i.e. Finland, Shanghai, Hong Kong, etc.);
- PISA as a tool for reform legitimisation at the national level;
- The role of PISA in the formation of new ‘reference societies’.
Max 20 students.
The course uses theories of inclusive citizenship and recognition in analyzing concrete cases related to the inclusion of ethnic, racial, religious, linguistic, sexual, gender and other minorities in educational institutions. In their individual case studies, the students will focus on a minority group and educational level of their own choosing.
Maximum 30 participants.
The students will be introduced to:
-the 20-year Finnish research tradition of cultural-historical activity theory for work development and societal transformations
-the central epistemological principles and methodological tools of formative interventions
-analytical resources to trace and support emergent processes of expansive learning and transformative agency in communities, workplaces and educational institutions
