Studies on Society and Culture is a multi-disciplinary optional study module inside the School of Social Sciences and Humanities and it is meant for all students studying at the University of Tampere.

This module includes lecture courses from Ethnomusicology, General Ethnology, History, lecture courses of the modules Nordic Perspective on European History and North American Studies, Philosophy, Social Anthropology, Sociology, Social Policy, Social Work, and Women’s Studies. Students can form a larger multi-disciplinary entity according to their own needs and interests, as long as they meet the requirements of the course unit (previous or equivalent courses taken, knowledge of the language of instruction), if the requirements of the particular degree programme allow for this and if there are still places left.

The courses listed in this module can be taken one by one without any pre-determined order. In order to receive a final grade of the module the student has to complete at least 15 ECTS. Student can include one course only to one module, i.e. a course of the North American Studies -programme (NAM) can be included either to this module or to the NAM-programme.

The lecture courses offered in this module most likely change a little from year to year. In addition to the lecture courses offered by different subjects, students can complete courses by independent study.
