Master's Program in Visual Journalism

Learning outcomes

VJM or the Master’s Program in Visual Journalism educates professionals in visual journalism. VJM is a two-year Master’s program which gives the skills to take on tasks within visual journalism, for example as a photographer or a visual designer in digital or print media. In addition, the student may specialize in the research of visual culture and photojournalism.

Content

VJM emphasizes the equal esteem of the three basic elements in visual journalism: the picture, the text and the design. The master’s program welds together picture and word and challenges the students to cross over professional boundaries.

Further information

The Master’s Program is a joint effort of five universities. The universities are the University of Tampere, University of Jyväskylä, University of Helsinki, University of Lapland and the University of Art and Design Helsinki.
