Master's Degree Programme in Health Sciences 2013-2015
Osaamistavoitteet
After completing the advanced studies the student has the required skills and tools to analyse the health and illness of populations and things that affect them. The student is able to plan and lead health promotion programmes and actions for improving population health. The student has the skills to conduct public health research and can assess and produce research findings on health and illness.
In addition to expertise in one’s own field, a person who has completed a Master’s Degree is expected to master the general skills needed in work-life and society and to know and follow ethical rules and principles. She/he knows how to find, evaluate and apply scientific knowledge in complex problem solving. She/he is able to conduct scientific research as a member of a research group and to report the findings on various forums in more than one language.
The person has the ability to function in demanding expert tasks responsibly and is able to take initiative and to work both independently and as a group member in multicultural and multiprofessional settings. She/he is able to plan, check and critically evaluate her/his own actions. She/he is able to guide and supervise others in her/his working community, to lead and train them. She/he understands the importance of lifelong learning and is able to utilise varied methods for learning.

Programme content • General Studies 15-20 ECTS • Advanced Studies in Health Sciences 95-105 ECTS • Optional Studies 10-20 ECTS
Advanced studies consist of mandatory Public Health Core Studies 35 ECTS, Elective Public Health Studies 20 ECTS, Master Thesis Studies 40 ECTS and an optional Work Practicum 5-10 ECTS.
