Molecular genetics - the study of the structure and function of genes at the molecular level - addresses how differences in genomes and gene expression give rise to variation in organisms. The development in Molecular Genetics has been driven by the technical development in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology and even computational biology. Molecular genetics can be applied to produce genetically modified organisms by introducing modifications into the genomes of micro-organisms, plants and animals, and it has revealed underlying mechanisms of human disease. In this course, ÿou will learn about the structure and function of genes and genomes, technologies that are used in molecular genetics and relevance of molecular genetics in understanding human genetic diseases.
