Goal 4: Quality Education

This course consists of two subunits: Academic Writing (3 cr) and Phonology and Pronunciation (2 cr).

In the Academic Writing subunit, the student will explore the central word-, sentence-, paragraph-, argument-, and text-level characteristics of English-language academic writing and complete related exercises.

The Phonology and Pronunciation subunit explores the basic concepts of phonology and phonetics in the context of the English language. The course introduces the mechanisms behind the production of speech sounds and examines the physical production of the English phonemes and their behaviour in different phonetic environments. The course also familiarizes the student with the phonetic alphabet and discusses prosodic features of English.
