Arts can be applied as tool to understand realm and device creatively new scenarios not explored yet. In the last decades, theatre has expressed its potential uses in several domains, demonstrating not only the intercultural value of its action, but also the social, psychological and political. This course introduces the interdisciplinary approach of applied theatre combined with peace theories and practices, with a special focus on nonviolent communication models. It provides an overview on how drama and theatre can be used to promote peace education, conflict resolution, peacebuilding and reconciliation, and also how it can be an effective tool in activists’ hands. Students will discover the potential application of theatre in different settings such as education field, activism, conflict management, intercultural and social mediation. During the course, organized in traditional lectures, seminars and participatory workshops, students will be asked to experiment different techniques of devising theatre – by using images, sounds, body language, words.
