The lectures cover the three dimensions of sustainability in journalism: environmental, economical and social sustainability. During the course we ask e.g: What are the environmental impacts of journalism and is there such a thing as a green media house? What is the basis of sustainable media economy and how journalism can refresh its audience relationship? What is journalism’s role in society? How can we bear social responsibility as journalists and how useful are the concepts of diversity and equality here? In the end we will concentrate on climate journalism: a perfect example of the challenges of sustainable journalism.

Every lecture consists of two separate talks (10 talks all together) and will have 1-2 supplementary readings. The complete list of readings will be available when the course begins.

The lecturers are experts, academics and journalists from Finland and abroad. Some lectures will be held via Teams/Zoom. All lectures are in English and are open to all exchange students.
