The course includes the lectures on numeric computation in physics. During lectures, students practise useful Matlab coding and computations for the level which is needed in project works.

The course includes also three project works in following subjects:

  • Gas analysis - determination the concentrations in gaseous sample using NDIR-spectroscopy
  • Cloud formation - determination particle size distribution in aerosol
  • Energy spectrum analysis - Compton scattering spectrum measurements and analysis

In project works, students retrieve information and distinguish essential information from content. They apply previously learned theory of physics and mathematics in to practical situations. Analysis of experimental measurement data, error analysis, and presentation of scientific results both in written and orally are rehearsed in the context of physics research related to spectroscopy.

Completion option 1
Lectures in the first period 6 x 2 h, participation is compulsory for 3 lectures. Three project works as pair work in periods II-IV. Every project includes written pre-report (pair work about 20 h/period). Measurements is performed in physics laboratory (compulsory pair work 3 h/period). Results analysis and presentation preparation includes pair work about 30 h/period. In final seminar, each pair presents the project (compulsory 2 h/period).
