- Main factors affecting adhesive bonds at material interfaces
- Surface characteristics: Wetting and surface energy
- Importance of adhesion to material performance
- Concepts of crack, fracture and delamination
- Understands scientific thinking, reasoning and explanation
Complementary knowledge
- The student is able to solve possible adhesion problems in different production processes and can predict functionality of materials in terms of adhesion at bonds.
- Contact angle measurements
- Specific surface treatment and modification methods (e.g. corona, flame, plasma, chemical modification (primers, adhesion promoters)
- Numerical models for bond failure
