Core content
  • Modelling of physiological systems compared to pure "engineering" problems. How to build models of physiological systems.
  • Model classes and types for physiological systems.
    Model-analogue, descriptive-predictive, empirical-mathematical.
  • Ordinary differential equation (ODE) based modelling of kinetic and compartmental systems.
  • Finite element modelling (FEM) in modelling 3D physiological systems: basic principles, techniques and applications.
  • Modelling biological and physiological processes by cellular automata or agent-based methods.
  • Finding parameters for the models.
Complementary knowledge
  • Use of a priori information, computational tools and measurements in model construction.
  • Modelling of epithelial tissue, cardiac activation and neural systems.

Completion option 1
Accepted final exam, week exercise and project work. The final grade of the course is determined based on the assessment of all part of the course. The weighting factor of each part is given at the beginning of the course.
