Opintojaksolla tutustutaan hallintotieteen historiaan ja oppiaineen kehitykseen. Jaksolla perehdytään hallinnon tutkimuksen keskeisiin sisältöalueisiin hallintoon, johtamiseen, organisaatioihin ja julkiseen politiikkaan tutkimuksen kohteina. Sisältöalueita lähestytään teorian kehityksen näkökulmasta. Opintojaksolla tarkastellaan myös hallintotieteen teorioiden hyödyntämistä käytännön toiminnan kannalta.
