Bachelor's Programme in Sustainable Urban Development, 180 cr

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the bachelor’s degree programme in Sustainable Urban Development, all graduates will:

  • Understand the various aspects of built environment, administrative, or social sciences as they relate to sustainable urban development, and to appreciate their complex interrelations;
  • Have a deep knowledge of key concepts, and the skills to be able to apply their knowledge to promote sustainable transitions in urban environments worldwide;
  • Recognize the central actors, questions, conflicts and solutions in the field of sustainable urban development;
  • Be able to carry out challenge-based sustainable development projects individually, in teams, and in collaboration with stakeholders from outside the university;
  • Implement principles of academic research and be able to independently design, conduct, report and communicate academic research projects to professional audiences and the general public.
  • Have the foundational knowledge that allows them to continue their studies at the Master's level.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Technology stream will have a foundational knowledge of mathematics and physical principles as they relate to the urban environment. Courses will also cover engineering, information technology and project management. Graduates will be automatically eligible to continue their studies in the Master of Science in Technology degree in Sustainable Transport.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Administrative Sciences stream will be able to analyze administrative, political and economic phenomena present in sustainable urban development. They will be equipped with administrative knowledge and research skills needed to acquire, analyze, and interpret data, and to specialize and develop a professional profile. Graduates will be eligible to continue their studies in the Master of Administrative Sciences in Governance for Sustainable Change.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Social Sciences stream will be able to analyze societal change and develop solutions to challenges of well-being and sustainability. They will be equipped with social scientific knowledge and research skills needed to acquire, analyze, and interpret data, and to specialize and develop a professional profile. After completing the programme, they will be eligible to continue their studies in the Master of Social Sciences in Comparative Social Policy and Welfare.
