Qualitative research methods in practice, Lectures
Primary course codes: YKT.301, YKT.302 (please contact the teachers to discuss other possible codes).
The course focuses on three aspects of knowledge that are often studied in social research: knowledge/expertise, policies, and stakeholder experiences. All can be studies with different methods and materials, for example, documents, media articles and other published materials, interviews, participant observations. The course includes eight classes, which each includes a lecture and in-class exercises and group discussions. The reading for most of the classes include 1) a research article, which we will discuss in terms of its use of methods, and 2) a document that we will use as data during in-class exercises. At the end of the course, students write an analysis paper in which they apply one method of their choice to the data of their choice. During the last class, everyone will give a short presentation discussing their analysis paper (work-in-progress).
