Nuorisotyön ja nuorisotutkimuksen syventävät opinnot (90 op) koostuvat nuorisotyön ja nuorisotutkimuksen teorioiden ja tutkimuksen syventävistä opintojaksoista (25 op), tutkimusmetodologia-opinnoista (10 op), työelämään suuntaavista opinnoista (15 op) sekä pro gradu -tutkielmasta ja -seminaarista (40 op).
Students who have completed a master’s degree in social sciences with a specalisation in youth work and youth studies possess a broad understanding of the evolution of the youth question from the perspectives of youth studies, youth work, youth policy and youth education. They have a deep familiarity with the concepts, contexts, structures and practices of youth work, as well as the theories and frameworks of youth work and youth education. They have a complete understanding of the theories and the main approaches in youth studies seeking to understand youth and adolescents as a historical, social, cultural and individual phenomenon. These approaches include, for example, subculture and youth culture, research on youth transitions, life cycle and life course. They have a comprehensive knowledge of scientific and methodological approaches and research methods and are able to apply them to the study of adolescents, youth and youth work. Students are familiar with the profession of youth work and the attitudes and the ethical questions related to it. They possess the comprehensive skills and knowledge required to work as experts in youth work and youth studies and thus have the potential to find employment both in national and international contexts.
