This accessibility statement concerns Tampere University’s curriculum pages service which is available on https://www.tuni.fi/studentsguide/curriculum/course-units. The service is governed by the Act on the Provision of Digital Services which stipulates that the digital services of public authorities must be accessible.
The accessibility of the service was assessed by an expert third party, on whose basis the accessibility statement was drawn up. This statement will be updated as the deficiencies are corrected. We continuously develop the service to improve accessibility.
The statement was prepared on 20 April 2021 and updated on 17 January 2024.
Is the service accessible?
The service partially meets the accessibility requirements of Level A and Level AA (WCAG-2.1) required by the Act. The identified accessibility deficiencies are described in more detail below.
Non-accessible content in the service
The website is not fully compliant with the Act yet.
Shortcomings in visibility:
- A section that visually looks like a table appears in the completion options of an individual course unit, but it is not marked as a table by the programme. Table headings are text elements meaning it may be difficult for a screen reader to associate the information in the table with the correct heading. (WCAG 1.3.1)
- In the service, tree structures are difficult to understand especially by screen reader users. In some of the tree structures, an attempt to describe the hierarchy with a heading structure has been made, but this is not the case at all levels of the tree structures. (WCAG 1.3.1)
- The site does not fully support text enlargement. Some information and functionality may be lost or hidden from view. (WCAG 1.4.4)
- The site does not fully support screen magnification. Some information and functionality may be lost or hidden from view. (WCAG 1.4.10)
Manageability shortcomings:
- Links have several shortcomings and accessibility problems. (WCAG 2.4.4)
- all the links do not have the necessary description, or the description is not understandable
- there are some broken links in the service
- links leading out of the service are not visually or programmatically marked
- at files, the file type and size are not indicated
- The tabs on the study information page act as a link but do not take the user to the correct destination. All tabs lead to the study information page where the Course unit tab is selected by default. (WCAG 2.4.4)
- In some plus/minus buttons that open more content, the button description is not understandable (plusicon/minusicon). (WCAG 2.4.6)
- The keyboard cursor is not visually distinguishable in some places. There are problems especially with some buttons and tabs. (WCAG 2.4.7)
- In the search of exams all the buttons on the date picker are cannot be accessed with a keyboard, and the screen reader can’t tell the current week and day of the week. (WCAG 2.1.1)
- In the search of exams, the icon of filtering the results gets hidden when the text grows bigger. Checkbox labels don’t grow in text size when they should. (WCAG 1.4.4)
Shortcomings related to understandability:
- Similar buttons have not been consistently marked. (WCAG 3.2.4)
- There are several different visual implementations of links. Links that work in a similar way are not always implemented in a similar way visually. (WCAG 3.2.4)
