Mikko J. Ruohonen is a professor of information systems at the Tampere University and the Chair of Nordic Centre in India Secretariat at Tampere University. Mikko Ruohonen has worked in the field of IS strategy and organization development since 1984. Besides his teaching and research he has been active in a number of executive programs. He has published plus 150 articles, reports, ten textbooks and a number of large industry research reports. He serves as a special consultant for IFIP (TC3 Education), which granted him Silver Core Award year 2007. Silver Core is conferred on those who have served IFIP as GA members, committee officers, members of IFIP Congress Program Committees, and editors of proceedings of IFIP conferences. On 2019 he organised a conference in Tanzania, Zanzibar on the topics of "Sustainable ICT, Education and Learning" and on 2021 an open TC3 conference in Tampere, Finland "Digital Transformation of Education and Learning - past, present and future". He is also Founder and Chief Executive Consultant at mr.management since 1998.
KTT Mikko J. Ruohonen on Tampereen yliopiston professori ja dosentti Turun yliopiston kauppakorkeakoulussa. Lisäksi hän toimii pohjoismaisen Nordic Centre in India hallituksen puheenjohtajana. Mikko Ruohonen on toiminut Turun kauppakorkeakoulun johtamiskoulutuskeskuksen johtajana, professorina Vaasan yliopistossa ja Tampereen yliopistossa kauppakorkeakoulun johtajana ja professorina.
Professori Ruohonen on toiminut tieteellisenä johtajana useissa laajoissa hankkeissa ja julkaissut kymmenen oppi/tietokirjaa ja yli 150 artikkelia Hän toimii kv. tietojenkäsittelyalan järjestön IFIP:n TC3 erikoisasiantuntijana ja sai vuonna 2007 IFIPin Silver Core Award –tunnustuksen työstään.

TEKES /Business Finland projects
Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (TEKES, later Business Finland) granted a leadership for a R&D projects “Implementing mass customisation strategies utilizing information and communication technology(ICT) as a competitive
advantage for Finnish industry (MASSI)” 2006 “Strategically agile manufacturing networks (StrAgile) 2008. ”Networked Product Life-Cycle Management” (NetPLM) 2010 with a number of companies and organisations in machinery, software, development industries and. Technology Industries of Finland. He has also been active in worklife development with innovations, dialogical and reflective practices for ICT-intensive organisational environments DINNO and REFINNO (2012-2014).

The CIRCMI IS research work has activated 2012-2014 in the Towards Relational Business Networks (REBUS, 2014-2016) and D4Value (2017-2019) which are strategic excellence program (SHOK) by DIMECC, and IT companies Cluster consortium and in media technology –oriented NextMedia-program.
Academy of Finland with Asia orientation
Based on Academy of Finland grant of senior visiting research activities for India-oriented research on 2008-2009 he has initiated research:
China-India Initiative for Competitive Advantage (ChIndICA) 2009-2010 and Voice-based mobile phone services for rural
India - RuralVoice (2012-2013) funded by Tekes.
Recent projects
He has been involved in leading TEKES RD&I projects for ServRate – rating business renewal in international settings (2011-2013) and strategically visionary projects onemotion business for business development MakeMyDay (2013-2016) Eustress – a joint collaboration project (2014-2016) with VTT (Technical Research Center of Finland). Latest program with Tekes and participating companies is related to Dynamic Distributed Software Development and High Performing Teams (DD-SCALE)
(2014-2016) and Buddy and the Smiths 2.0 (TURRE ja Toivoset 2.0) Building an ecosystem for pet technology forerunners (2016-2018).
During years 2022-2023 he has worked for the Global Innovation Network for Teaching and Learning GINTL -programme under the project “Smart Agriculture and Entrepreneurship” for Indian students and faculty members from the Indian agricultural universities. Ministry of Education and Culture, ICAR Indian Council of Agricultural Research and World Bank have financially supported this project. Indian agricultural universities have sent 90 undergraduate students and nearly 30 faculty members for educational and visiting programmes to Tampere and other Finnish cities.
Luottamustoimet
Currently he serves as Chair of Nordic Centre in India -consortium's Board at Tampere University. He has served as a special consultant for Technical Committee 3 (Education) of the International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP). In addition he has served as the president of Executive Board for Association of Information Systems (AIS) Scandinavian Chapter 2006-2007. International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP) granted him IFIP Silver Core Award year 2007. Silver Core is conferred on those who have served IFIP as General Assembly (GA) members, committee officers, members of IFIP Congress Program Committees, and editors of proceedings of IFIP conferences.
