Osaamistavoitteet

After completing the degree the students have demonstrated systematic understanding of engineering sciences and their societal significance. They understand the limitations and possibilities of scientific research methods in their own research area, can apply existing methodology for other areas, and they can create new research methods to solve scientific, engineering, and societal problems of the future with scholarly integrity. The graduates can critically evaluate the scientific, engineering, and societal significance and impact of the results. The students can analyze, evaluate, and synthesize new and complex engineering ideas and concepts especially from the viewpoint of scientific quality. The graduates are able to promote complex engineering ideas and concepts to non-expert audience and society at large using knowledge-based argumentation. They are able to communicate and function as experts in groups comprising members from diverse culture and language backgrounds, and they can communicate with peers and colleagues in the larger scholarly and engineering community and society at large. The students are able to follow lifelong learning to pursue their careers in academy, industry, or to change the sector from one to the other at any point during the future career.

Sisällön kuvaus

Doctors graduating from Tampere University are well-versed in their field of research and its significance. They have knowledge and skills required to apply scientific or artistic research methods independently and critically, to produce new scientific or artistic knowledge and to follow developments in their research field. They have sufficient communication and language skills and other working life competencies for serving in extensive and demanding expert and development duties and in international cooperation.

After completing a degree in the Doctoral programme in Engineering Sciences  the doctoral student has the skills and competencies needed to pursue a state of the art expert or research career associated with engineering sciences. The Doctoral Programme in Engineering Sciences covers the following research fields: Automation Science and Engineering, Mechanical and Production Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering. The programme is closely focused on technology and utilizes many high-quality research environments. Doctors graduating from the Doctoral Programme in Engineering Sciences will have excellent substance related core competencies, scientific and communication skills to operate effectively with international experts/communities connected strongly to the industry as well as to the internationally highly ranked academia.

The Doctoral Program in  Engineering Sciences has strong industrial relevance. Our graduates can refine industrial challenges into scientific research questions, apply scientific methods to acquire new data, critically evaluate and analyse the data to answer the research questions, and finally communicate the results and new knowledge both to the industry and the academia. The graduates understand various career options and are able to apply their skills and knowhow both in the industry and the academia.
