This course consists of two subunits: Grammar 2 (3 cr) and Linguistics 2 (2 cr).
In the Grammar 2 subunit, the focus will be on analysing more complex sentence structures. The range of grammatical structures covered includes, for example, the following: modal verbs, verb complementation, active vs. passive clauses, particle verbs, and inversions. The course unit will also familiarise the students with analysing language structures using authentic texts from corpus data.
In the Linguistics 2 subunit, the students will be introduced to the study of language above the level of sentence: the basics of pragmatics and discourse analysis. The students will explore how language functions in real-life communication contexts, examining the nuances of meaning, intention, and context.
