The Unbread are walking, the dogs are talking. You’ve got to save the kingdom! Cook delicious noodles, bake the best pizza and for the love of the land don’t mess up your orders!
Picture 1: Talking to the onion king and gathering new information about the spread of the Unbread
The onion king is asking for your help in defending the kingdom from a rising army of undead bread zombies (the Unbread). To beat this horde of Unbread you will need to cook delicious food for expecting customers!
There is not much going on story–wise but what little there is, is fun in its own stupid/clever way. Overcooked 2 is a cooking co-op game that is extremely fun and the more players you manage to gather with you the better. The game can be played with 1-4 players but playing it solo just doesn’t do the game justice. The game consists of several areas of the map, each containing a set number of levels. To complete a level you need to earn a certain amount of points by completing orders as fast as you can. On some levels, it may take several tries to figure out the correct order in which to cut, cook, boil and serve the orders. Figuring out which chef (player) does which action is extremely chaotic, often surprising and where most of the fun in the game comes from.
Picture 2: the starting situation of one of the levels
Each level has a scoring system from 1 to 3 stars and simply passing the level at 1 star is often doable on the first try, but getting to 3 stars requires some planning and repetition. The player(s) get orders from the customers, displayed in the top left of the screen and filling those orders is necessary to clear the level. The level design is very varied and one of the factors that give the game the surprising depth that it has. You get to cook food in hovering balloon restaurants, deep in the mines of Moria (kind of) or Hogwarts–like wizard schools with teleportation portals!
Furthermore; the game has secret levels that the player can unlock by scoring well on certain levels. These bonus levels are often harder than the normal ones and add to the depth of the game by a lot! Once finished with the regular levels the player(s) might find unlocking and completing these additional levels very rewarding. Besides bonus levels, there are multiple downloadable content packs available for a few euros each. All this gives the game quite a lot of extra fun and plenty more playing time!

Overcooked 2 is one of the most fun co-op games I have ever played! It suits get-togethers and lazy Saturday evenings with friends excellently. This is a game I recommend for everyone. A huge thumbs up from me!
