Maybe the relationship between console players and PC players might not be so bad that it needs its own “I have a dream..” speech, but there is clearly something wrong that we could all try to fix.
PC players and console players have always had a feud straining their relationships and making their gaming platforms unnecessary parts of their egos.
One term that keeps appearing when talking about this is PC Master Race.
Urban Dictionary has this to say about the term PC Master Race: “Gamers who invest time and money into their personal computer and use it as their main gaming platform with the graphic settings cranked up to maximum.”
So according to Urban Dictionary it is much more strict definition, making it only be about the hardcore PC players with time invested in the hobby. Although in general speak it may just mean anyone who plays with PC.
The term also has its backside. While PC Master Race might mean a better and overall more invested player, it might also mean to the random console players a more geek of a kind person who only plays games and lives in their mother’s basement. Same way the console players might also look like a bunch of idiots who are actually pretty bad at games and play Fortnite against 12-year old kids.
Of course, all of these are just stereotyping with no real resemblance to the majority of players, console or PC. So why do we keep up with this kind of dividing lines between us? What use does it have to us?
Probably none, but as we are humans, we always like to compete so why not to do it with our gaming platforms? People have started wars in the history for pettier things.
Truthfully speaking the feud is irrelevant, since most of the time PC players and console players have a different approach and different goals for gaming. Although they seem to be doing the same thing, there are many differences.
For example, PC gamers might enjoy more about the adaptive nature of their platform and the possibility to update and build their own platform. In contrast, some console players enjoy turning their console on time to time just to relax for a while with nothing to serious.
Once again, these are not accurate descriptions of majority of the player base of either platform. It would be stupid and blind to evaluate person only by the gaming platform they use. This is also the reason why we really should not care about the feud. There are bigger things that as a gaming community we should be taking care of first. That problem is toxicity.
Toxicity is an even bigger problem and it is a something that goes over the imaginary borders of platforms. No matter what platform you play, no matter where you might be reading about the game you play, no matter is it an adult or child you are playing in online, someone is always toxic.
Although there are bigger issues to solve in the gaming community, it does not mean that we can forget and undermine the smaller problems.
Luckily, the whole feud is also sometimes just a meme. Most of the people are not in it for real and just want to make funny jokes about someone else.
In the end, there is no reason to bully each other, even in humorous ways. Everyone should be allowed to play with any platform they decide to use without getting attacked verbally because of it. After all, we play to have fun and why would we want to deny that from someone who really is not doing any harm to our playing?
